$1 million sale during Fasig-Tipton's 2-year old auction

The first $1 million sale occured during Fasig-Tipton Florida's sale of select 2-year-olds.  For specific information see www.bloodhorse.com.
An excellent prospect, a sign of an improving economy, or both?

Thank you.

27th National Conference on Equine Law

I am making arrangements to attend this year's National Conference on Equine Law in Lexington, KY.  I attended last year's Conference.  There were many actionable continuing legal education sessions.  (I even got to be in a skit about professional ethics issues.)  I met a large number of lawyers from around the country who practice equine law, and came away from the Conference concluding that "Horse Lawyers" are among the nicest group of lawyers I have ever had the pleasure of meeting.  As a result, I am very excited about this year's conference.

Who else is going to this year's Conference?  Here is a link to The University of Kentucky College of Law's website:  http://www.ukcle.com/.  Once you are there go to the "Courses" tab on the left side, and you will see a further link to the "Annual National Conference on Equine Law."  (It does not have a direct URL.)

Thank you.

This past weekend at HITS Ocala got me thinking...

This past weekend was the penultimate weekend of the HITS Ocala winter circuit.  Rainy, muddy, but great fun as always.
One thing I noticed was how very many competitors and vendors were present.  That made me wonder if there are some "green shoots" showing in the equine industry.  What are you observing "out there" (meaning other than in Ocala...)?

That got me thinking even further -- What do mature equine businesses (both for goods and services) need to be resilient and nimble in a very rough economic environment. And, equally interesting (at least to me), what do new equine businesses need to survive and then thrive?  I welcome your thoughts.

Thank you.

P.S.  If anyone is going to be at HITS Ocala next weekend, I would be very happy to meet you and say "Hello" at the show grounds.
